BCMP SCIENCE NEWS:

1)  Congratulations to the following BCMP scientists who, earlier
this year, received funding awards in the first annual Taplin Funds for
Discovery competition:

--DRS. JIM HOGLE and PIOTR SLIZ for their proposal to establish an
integrated computing grid for HMS structural biology and bioinformatics
research

--DR. JAMES CHOU for his proposal to purchase an NMR cryogenic probe optimized for 13C detection

--DRS. JON CLARDY and NATHANAEL GRAY for their proposal to purchase an LC/MS for small molecule analysis

--DRS. DAVID GOLAN and ANTOINE VAN OIJEN for their proposal to
support a single molecule fluorescence and nanomanipulation facility

WELCOME:

2)  AJIT SATAPATHY (Richardson Lab) received his master’s degree in
plant science with specialization on plant physiology and
biochemistry.  For his Ph.D., he joined Dr. Malay Ray’s group in CCMB,
India.  Here, he worked on RecBCD enzyme complex.  He analyzed the
genetic and biochemical properties of RecD helicase and its role in the
DNA repairing process during cold adaptation.  In Dr. Richardson’s lab,
he is currently working on T7 DNA helicase and its involvement in the
T7 DNA replication process.

NOTICES:

3)  The dissertation defense seminar of BETTY CHAN, “Functional
Studies of the Calcineurin-DSCR1 Complex”, will be held Friday, April
20, at 1:00pm in the Warren Alpert building, room 341.
