BCMP SCIENCE NEWS:
1) DR. BOB RANDO has signed a
multimillion-dollar deal with Merck & Co., Inc. to develop
potential therapies for macular degeneration, an eye disease that
affects older people and can lead to blindness.

2) The BCMP Group Photo for
the 2005-06 has been rescheduled for Friday June 23. It will be taken
on the quad-side steps of Gordon Hall at 11:30am, immediately preceding
the final BCMP Data Club for the school year. Please mark your
calendars.
WELCOME:
3) MASATERU TAKAHASHI
(Richardson lab) received his Masters and Ph.D. in Agriculture at
Kyushu University Graduate School in Japan. He studied, with Dr.
Kusakabe, the silkworm genes related to DNA damage repair and radiation
resistance. He also received his BS in Agricultural Botany from Kyushu
University.
4) JIANMING ZHANG (Gray lab) completed his undergrad
at Anhui University, China, receiving a BS in Biology. He received a
Ph.D. in Biology at the University of Chicago. He studied the function
of a new gene jingwei in Drosophila with Dr. Manyuan Long and Anthony
Dean. He did a postdoc at MIT where he identified intronic splicing
silencers in human genome with Dr. Chris Burge. In the Gray lab, his
mission is to characterize small molecules function as kinase
inhibitors by chemical library screening and in vitro evolution.
